How does your service work?

VABB is a Fixed Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP), meaning we deliver the Internet to your location through a variety of radio frequencies. We deliver the Internet to you from one of our 108 "broadcast" locations within a few miles of your location. We use commercial towers, silos, barns, private utility poles, and houses that sit high on hills. If your location can see one of our broadcast sites with no trees obstructing the view, you are considered "Line-Of-Sight" (LOS) and have an excellent chance of receiving Internet speeds in the 15 to 30mbps range... or more.

Locations near our broadcast site that have trees in the way are considered "Non-Line-Of-Sight" (NLOS). So long as the trees are not too thick and the distance to our broadcaster is within a few miles, we can still reach you with speeds in the 5 to 15mbps range or more, depending on the environment.

And if we can't reach your location with our "Fixed" wireless solution, we also offer VABB SKY—an innovative way to provide you with high-speed Internet through satellite technology. For more details, call us at 540-829-1700.

What is your installation process?

  1. After you have placed an order with us we will schedule an installer to come to your home or business.

  2. When the installer arrives he will conduct a site survey to ensure that our service is available.

  3. Next, the installer will confirm where and how the antenna shall be mounted for optimum performance.

  4. A cable will be run from the outside antenna to the VABB Subscriber Unit located inside your home or business. This Subscriber Unit within your home is the end of VABB's network—meaning, you will need to plug a customer owned PC or router to this device in order to get on-line.

    Note: The standard installation does not include any in-wall cabling or trenching. You will need to contract that work out. Non-standard installations involving complex mounting of our antenna, extra cabling, etc. may be charged an additional fee—you will be advised prior to starting the install.

    What we provide:

    • An antenna and standard mounting (J-mount, eave mount, tri-pod mount, EMT pipe planted in the yard). Any special mounting required beyond our standard mounts may be accessed an additional charge.
    • Up to 100ft of cable from the antenna to a small subscriber unit installed inside. Additional cable length may be accessed a charge of $.50/ft.
    • Wireless routers can be purchased from VABB—check for current rates.
  5. From our inside Subscriber Unit, you can then connect your PC, a router, or wireless router.

Can I have more than one computer on your service?

Yes. Multiple computers may utilize the same Internet connection at the subscriber location.  A router (usually wireless) connected to the subscriber unit will be required for multiple connections.   VABB provides wireless routers for an additional charge.

What is the difference in your service levels?

Internet Service Providers (ISP) offer a variety of monthly plans based on speeds, usage, or a combination of both.  Trying to compare one provider's plans to another is like matching oranges and apples... it will drive you nuts.  At VABB, you are wide-open to the fastest speeds possible given your location.  Speeds can never be guaranteed by any Internet provider so why base service plans on speeds - especially when these speed-based providers hide the clause "speeds are not a guarantee... best effort only" in their terms and conditions.

That’s why VABB service plans are based on usage - the amount of information you upload and download in a month. This is the fairest way to measure how you are using VABB's network resources.  Why should a person who only uses the Internet for emails and on-line shopping twice a week pay the same per month as a heavy Internet user streaming movies and playing on-line games 8 hours a day... every day!  Just like anything else in life... you pay for what you use.   You will find that our monthly plans are very competitive...but most important - 0ur local customer service staff will work with you to find the best plan that fits your Internet needs and budget.  View our plans

Will trees affect the ability for me to get service?

Not necessarily. We operate primarily using non-line-of-sight radio frequency technology. Our signal will penetrate sparse tree cover but rapidly degrades through miles of thick tree canopy.  We will not install our services at your location if trees will impede your signal come summer time.

How Secure is your system?

Your VABB connection is very secure. We've built-in security using carrier grade technology continuously authenticating from your location to ours.

How do I setup up my email?

Your service comes with up to five email accounts.  If you want to CHANGE an existing VABB email address or CREATE more VABB email addresses, please contact VABB Customer Service.

The instructions below have been provided to help you properly setup your VABB email account – for your benefit and to ensure that you receive important notices from VABB.

WHY? All notices regarding system upgrades, enhancements, and new features that may affect your service will be sent to your VABB email address well in advance of the event. There may also be times when VABB will need to send information at a moment's notice or after the fact. For that reason, we recommend that you check your emails often to ensure you receive our notices in advance of the event.

  • If you already have a VABB email address(s) - Please read through the instructions below to ensure you will receive our important notices.
  • If you DO NOT have a VABB email address - READ STEP 2 NOW! Then please read through the instructions below to ensure you are setup to receive our important notices.
  • If you frequently or exclusively use a non-vabb email address - We have provided instructions to ensure that important notices sent to your VABB email address will be forwarded to the non-vabb email.

WARNING: If you choose not to have or use a VABB email address, you will not receive advanced notices regarding important system issues that may affect your service.

SUPPORT NOTICE: VABB only supports questions and setup procedures for Outlook 2000, 2002, XP, 2003, Outlook Express 5.x through 7.x, Mail for Macintosh OSX, and VABB's Web Mail application. If you are using an email application other than the ones listed above, you will need to contact their help desk for proper setup procedures.

Step 1: Identify which category best fits your emailing habits:

  • If you want to set up a new VABB email address.
  • Please contact us by completing Step 2.
  • Will you be using your VABB email address as my primary email account (this is the best situation to ensure you will always receive our important notices)?
  • Will you be using your VABB email address as a secondary email only?
  • If you use Outlook, you may set it up to receive your VABB email by completing Step 3 below.
  • If you use Mail for Mac OSX, follow the instructions below.
  • If you use another service like Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, MSN, etc…. and would like to receive important VABB notices, you can have your VABB email forwarded to your inbox at those services. Complete Step 5 below.
  • You may also check your VABB emails on-line at the VABB Web Mail site. Complete Step 4 below.

Step 2: Get a VABB email account

Send an email to:

Please include your VABB account name, your name, and your proposed new email address(s).

Once we have your email account setup, we will send a confirmation email with your "User Name" and "Password" information to both your CURRENT email address and your new VABB email address.

Step 3: To access your VABB email using Outlook, Outlook Express, or Mail for Macintosh OSX:

WARNING:Always use lower case letters for your email address and password setups. Depending on the version you have, the following steps may be slightly different, but should get you to the same place.

Outlook and Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Select: >Tools >Options >Mail Set-up >Email Accounts
  3. Follow the steps provided in the Set-up Wizard: Add a new email account >POP3
  4. Enter the following information:
    • Your Name = Enter your name as you want it to appear when someone receives your email
    • Email Address = Your full VABB email address (Example:
    • Incoming POP3 server =
    • Outgoing SMTP server =
    • User Name = Your full VABB email address (Example:
    • Password = Your current password
  5. Setup the SMTP Outgoing Mail by following the various methods below:

For Outlook 2000:

  1. Open Outlook 2000
  2. Select: >Tools >Accounts
  3. Highlight the mail account that connects to VABB
  4. Select: >Properties >Servers >Outgoing Mail Server
  5. Select: >My server requires authentication
  6. Click on OK to close all screens

For Outlook 2003:

  1. Open Outlook 2003
  2. Select: >Tools >Email Accounts >View or change existing email accounts
  3. Highlight the mail account that connects to VABB
  4. Select: >Change >More Settings >Outgoing Servers
  5. Select: >My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  6. Click on OK to close all screens

For Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Select: >Tools >Accounts >Mail
  3. Highlight the mail account that connects to VABB
  4. Select: >Properties >Servers
  5. Under Outgoing Mail Server – Select: >My server requires authentication
  6. Click on OK to close all screens

Mail for Mac OSX:

  1. Open Mail. Look for it in your dock or in the Applications folder.
  2. From the File menu, choose Add Account.
    1. Choose POP as the Account Type
    2. Enter a name for the account into Account Description
    3. Enter your name as you want it to appear to recipients of your emails into the "Full Name" field
    4. Enter your full Email address into the "Email Address" field (e.g.
  3. Click the Continue button.
  4. In the Incoming Mail Server field, enter: Enter full email address precisely as it has been provided to you into the User Name field. (e.g., Enter the account password. Note* Passwords are case sensitive (e.g. 'Hello' and 'hello' are not the same).
  5. Click the Continue button.
  6. Leave the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) checkbox unchecked and make sure Authentication drop-down menu is set to Password.
  7. Click the Continue button.
  8. The Account Summary page is displayed.
  9. Click the Continue button.
  10. Your account has been added to Mail.

Step 4: Use the VABB Web Mail site

If you prefer, or when you travel you can access and send/receive your VABB e-mails at our VABB Web Mail site:

  1. Log into the VABB Web Mail site by opening an Internet browser and typing:
  2. User name = Your full email address (ex.
  3. Password = Your current password

WARNING: When using the VABB Web Mail site to retrieve your e-mails, be advised that once you download your VABB email into Outlook or some other email application, those email notices will no longer appear in your VABB Web Mail Inbox! Please refer to Outlook instructions to prevent this from happening.

Step 5: Forwarding VABB emails to another service like Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, MSN, etc.:

  1. Log into the VABB Web Mail site by opening an Internet browser and typing:
  2. User name = Your full email address
    • Password = Your current password
    • Click "Settings" in the upper right area of your Email window
    • Click "Incoming Email" on the left menu of the Settings window
    • Click the "Forwarding" tab in the center of the Settings window
    • Select "On" under the Status option
    • In the "Forward To" field, enter the email address you want your messages sent to
    • Set additional options if required
    • Click the "Save" button to save changes and exit Settings

Other Tips: How to change your password:

  1. Log into the VABB Web Mail site by opening an Internet browser and typing:
  2. User Name = Your full email address
  3. Password = Your current password
    • Click "Settings" in the upper right area of your email window
    • Click "Change Password" on the left menu of the Settings window
    • Enter your current password, your new password, then confirm your new password
    • Click the "Save" button to save changes and exit Settings

Can I upgrade my service at any time?

Yes. At any time you can upgrade your service plan with no additional charges. You can also downgrade your service plan once a year.  Our local staff will work with you to ensure the plan you are on meets your Internet needs and your budget.

Do I have a Contract?

Yes. There is a 12 month commitment for service.  After you have met the terms of the contract your service is provided on a month-to-month basis with no contractual time limits.  If you wish to cancel service within your first year due to service issues, so long as you have given our techs a chance to correct any issues; re-align your antenna, adjust frequencies, point you to another broadcaster, we will not hold you to the $199 Early Termination Fee (ETF).  However, if service has been good, fast, and consistent and you wish to cancel anyway, the ETF will be assessed.  In cases of moving outside our coverage area, the ETF will be waived.

Will bad weather affect my ability to get a good signal?

Unlike satellite Internet and other broadband solutions, our signal quality is immune to dense storm clouds. Cable television and broadband can also be affected by soaking rains/snow, thus reducing your quality of service until street level equipment can be repaired or dried out. Can I access my VABB.COM email account from any computer?

Yes. VABB offers its customers a web browser based email interface, much like Yahoo, Hotmail and other web-based mail services. You can therefore access your mail from work, a friend's house, or virtually any other computer connected to the Internet. To access your VABB WebMail account, go to:

Will I need an outdoor antenna for your service?

Yes, a high performance Yagi antenna of dish antenna is required for virtually all installations. In some cases, a small, square antenna that measures 9x9x2 in size may be used. We go to great lengths to ensure each installation is discrete, using professional installers and top quality materials.

Can I share my VABB connection with my neighbor?

No. Doing so would violate your Subscriber Agreement.

Are there any bandwidth limitations to your service?

Yes. Our service plans are based on monthly bandwidth usage. Please see our data plan page for more details.

How many email accounts do I get?

You will get up to 5 email accounts with your any service plan.

How much Web Space do I get?

We do not provide Web Hosting services. There are many vendors to provide this service if you need it.

Do you register domain names?

We no longer provide registration services. There are many vendors to provide this service if you need it.

Is your service compatible with VPN?

Yes. Our service is VPN friendly. A static IP is available for an additional $5 per month.
